2016 Releases We Can't Wait For!

We have survived another year of book releases. You can see our top ten 2015 releases here, in case you missed it! Now, that we are into 2016, the Wenches are gearing up for this year's crop of new books. There are a lot of new books being added to some of our favorite series' that we are just dying for, and one or two new non-series books as well. A new book in a series is like catching up with an old friend. It is such a delight. Plus, it gives us an excuse to revisit the whole series! Not that any of us really needs an excuse for a re-read. Anyway, keep reading after the break to see which 2016 releases the Wenches are looking forward to!

First, let's take a look at the books several Wenches are excited for!

Release Date: January 19th

Anne: I am desperate for Feverborn, the latest in the Fever Series. It's due out so, so soon! I want it so badly mostly because I can't wait to read it. But, also because that means I'll be in New Orleans for the release party with Head Wench Barb and Wenches Amanda, Natalie, and Zee, who are also, obviously, ridiculously excited for this release!!

Kathi: One of my very favorite series to read, and the one I’m most anxious to see how it all turns out — for Mac, Barrons, Dani, Christian, Ryodan and the rest of the Nine, the sidhe-seers, and the multifarious spectrum of Seelie and Unseelie Fae as they all try to gain control of Dublin. For me, the Fever world building is nonpareil, and so is my emotional investment over its fate and that of its many residents I hold dear.

Merit: I want to dive into this crazy magical world, waiting to meet Mac & company and find out the new plots and twists Karen Marie Moning's imagination prepared for us.

(Chicagoland Vampires #12)
Release Date: March 1

Anne: I am really looking forward to reading, the latest in Ethan and Merit's adventures. It sounds like it is going to be amazing, as usual. Will we finally get the proposal Ethan has been teasing Merit with? What trouble will they encounter? Will I get to see much of my beloved Jonah? What married hi-jinks are Mallory and Cather getting up to?

Kathi: This series is like a BFF who shows up every few months to hang out, scarf down large quantities of high-calorie decadence, and catch up on the latest. Now that Chloe Neill is writing two series, the wait is longer and I’m a little more antsy for my overdue visit with Ethan, Merit, Catcher, Mallory, Jeff, Lindsay, and all the others!

Merit: You know that the Chicagoland Vampires series is kind of my "first love" in this books genre, not first read, but first love, always happy to read more about Merit and Ethan adventures.

(The Others #4)
Release Date: March 8

Angela: I just adore this series and it's surprising as I really didn't enjoy her The Black Jewels series.

Kathi: I can’t help but smile whenever I visit this quirky, imaginative world where indigenous species can banish (or eat!) the greedy, selfish humans who violate their strict environmental protection laws. I’m looking forward to some forward motion in the romance department for a particular couple, and I’m curious to see where the author takes us next.

Merit: This series was a wonderful find. I didn't expect much but I got hooked!

 (Devil’s Isle #2)
Release Date: August 16

Anne: After a great first installment with The Veil, I can't wait to see where the series goes with the second book. Claire's world is a fascinating one and I can't wait to read more about it.

Kathi: And here’s the reason my visits with Ethan and Merit are delayed this year. Fortunately, I enjoyed the first book in this new series and am looking forward to seeing where it goes next. The story, the characters, and the gritty new world have a lot of potential.

Merit: Though it's not CLV, the first book in the Devil's Isle series peeked my curiosity enough for the second book.

comingsoonInto the Fire by Jeaniene Frost
(Night Prince #4)
Release Date: October 25

Anne: So....I'm a terrible fan and didn't realize this had a release date until Kathi mentioned it. But, I am super excited to get an ending to Vlad and Leila's story. I adore those two and even though the last book was a little repetitive as far as the plot goes, I want to see where Ms. Frost takes their story.

Care: I'm jonesing for Into the Fire. Next reread, coming up! ^_^

Kathi: All the Night Huntress characters hold a special place in my heart, and I’d really like to see Vlad’s series end with a massive pyrotechnic burst of flaming passion.

We are a diverse lot of readers. So, we aren't always excited about the same things. Here's a few more releases some of the Wenches are looking forward to.

Playing with Fire by Avery Cockburn
Glasgow Lads #3
Release Date: January 31st

Care: It's a little world all interacting and evolving and I love every second of it. We got a sneak peek at the holiday, and I'm *so* stoked!

25258226When Falcons Fall by C.S. Harris.
Sebastian St. Cyr #11
Release Date: March 1st

Angela: Can. Not. Wait. This is one of the very best series I've discovered via my Goodreads friends and I'm dying to know what is in store for Sebastian and Hero next!

Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson, #9)Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs
Mercy Thompson #9
Release Date: March 8th

Anne: Those are like catching up with old friends. I can't wait to see what's in store for Mercy and Adam this time around.

17204332The Visitor by Amanda Stevens
Graveyard Queen #4
Release Date: April 1st

Angela:  In addition to my excitement over this book, I heard a little whisper that we might get Book 5 in October as well.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J.Maas
A Court of Thorn and Roses #2
Release Date: May 8

Merit: The first book in this series was a wonderful surprise read. I didn't expect much when I read it, but it pulled me in!

20927079The Fireman by Joe Hill
Release Date: May 17

Kathi: I added this book to my TBR list when Stephen King tweeted that he’d read it, loved it, and knew the author. Then I realized the author is Stephen King’s son, which just makes me want to read it all the more. I look forward to meeting the next generation of King family storytellers. If my reading schedule weren’t already full right now, I’d check out the books he’s already written, but I’ll get to them eventually.

12379094The City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin
The Passage #3
Release Date: May 24

Kathi: It has been a long time since I last visited this series, and I probably need a reread to refresh my memory, because there are a lot of characters and plotlines to remember in this harrowing tale of human survivors pitted against 12 bloodlines of rage-driven quasi vampires spawned by biological weapons gone wrong in a post-apocalyptic USA.

Made for Sin by Stacia Kane
Release Date: August 9th

Merit: It has been such a long time since I read the last book in her amazing Downside Ghosts series. A new series by SK is so welcome.

Magic Binds by Ilona Andrews
Kate Daniels #9
Release Date: September 27th

Vale: I can't wait for the next book!

There are also a few books we are still hoping to be released in 2016, whether that happens or not remains to be seen.

The Mirror and the Light by Hilary Mantel
Thomas Cromwell #3
Release Date: sometime in 2016

Kathi: This series boldly portrays Henry VIII’s court through the eyes of Thomas Cromwell, a man who wielded enormous power but has remained hidden in the shadows of history. Mantel presents a character who is thoroughly human, compelling, and multi-dimensional. In fact, we sympathize with him and find him far more relatable than the ruthless villain history often paints him as. Which is going to make this final book harder to read, if you know anything about his fate.

Untitled Frank Einstein Book by Jon Scieszka
Frank Einstein #4
Release Date: Spring 2016

Care: I've got the fourth Frank Einstein for a read aloud for both myself *and* my son. It's due to come out in the spring... and I still don't have a title! I'm more antsy than he is about all this! XD

Untitled Sidewinder Book by Abigail Roux
Sidewinder #4
Release Date: Hopefully sometime in 2016

Anne: I'm hopeful that we'll get Sidewinder #4 from Abigail Roux this year. But, Abi has had a lot of health issues this past year. So, recovery should be her priority. I am very intrigued by Owen's murder book, though. And, I am eagerly awaiting it's release, no matter when it is.

Care: I'm also looking forward to the potential for a Sidewinder book #4 by Abi Roux - I know that one's a long shot, but I'll wait extremely excitedly for it!

12111823Winds of Winter by George RR Martin
A Song of Ice and Fire #6
Release Date: ???? Before we all die hopefully.

Angela: Until the recent announcement by GRRM on when Winds of Winter would be out I was confident we would see it in 2016. However, my hopes are now dashed that it has any chance of being out this year. Maybe I'll be surprised by the end of the year. Hope so.

Anne: I was somewhat hopeful about getting the Winds of Winter release this year, it looks like that isn't going to happen. Maybe next year.

Kathi: One highlight of my literary year was reading books 3–5 in this series! With all the lives left hanging in the balance, poised on the brink of war, or plotting their next move in this grand game of thrones, I most anxiously await new developments and the fates of all my favorite characters. GRRM has crafted a complex, ever-changing loooong tug-of-war, but can he keep control of all these chess pieces he has put in motion? Latest news: Probably delayed until 2017 :(

Well, Saucy Readers, those are our most anticipated books of 2016. How about you? Are you looking forward to any we didn't cover here? Are you as disappointed about Winds of Winter as we are? Let us know in the comments!

**Special Thanks to Wench Anne for pulling this one together. You're the greatest!

Comments

  1. I'm looking forward to many of the same ones you all are. I'm also very disappointed that we aren't getting Winds of Winter anytime soon. I am very happy that we're getting the final book of The Passage trilogy. Like Kathi, I will have to reread the first two before the last one comes out! I just pre-ordered Maisie Dobbs #12 - Journey to Munich. Maisie gets sent to Germany just prior to WW II. She's become one of my favorite heroines.
Kathi - If you want to read another Joe Hill book, I recommend his first book: Heart-Shaped Box. It's the only one I've read so far and it's creepy, scary, and good!
