The Memory Remains

Image
Our Favorite SVM Quotes
It has been a long ride. It started at different moments in time for all of us. But it all ends the same way. With Dead Ever After. Kathi's already told you about our journey to each other in The Saga of the Saucy Wenches. Now we want to share with you our journey through the books that bonded us. The moments that made an impact on us from the very first time we read them, the ones we highlighted or dog eared because we just had to keep coming back to them again and again. We have been moved to one strong emotion or another countless times during the course of the books. Tears, longing, anger, lust, or just feeling what Sookie was feeling as strongly as she was. Fair warning: we love everything Eric Northman!

Click through to read a few of our favorite moments from each book, which will forever remain with us. These are seared into our memories and hearts regardless of how the series ends for the vampire who stole the scenes (and our hearts) in these books. (…

Quote of the Day

Eric came over to me, beaming. I had never been more undilutedly glad that our bond was broken, because I didn’t want to feel what he was feeling, even a little bit. He put his arms around me, kissed me with enthusiasm, and all I could smell was blood. He was wet with it. It was getting all over my dress and my arms and my chest. After a minute he drew back, frowning. “Sookie?” he said. “You’re not rejoicing?” I tried to think of what to say. I felt like a big fat hypocrite. “Eric, I’m glad we don’t have to worry about Victor anymore. And I know this was what we planned. But surrounded by dead people and body parts is not my idea of a good place for a celebration, and I’ve never been less horny in my life.” His eyes narrowed. He didn’t like my raining on his parade. Understandable.
And that was the thing, wasn’t it? I found all of this understandable. But I still hated it, hated myself, wasn’t too fond of anyone else. “You need some blood,” I said. “I really am sorry you were wounded, an…

“Did we have sex?” he asked directly.
For about two minutes, this might actually be fun. “Eric,” I said, “we had sex in every position I could imagine, and some I couldn’t. We had sex in every room in my house, and we had sex outdoors. You told me it was the best you’d ever had.” (At the time he couldn’t recall all the sex he’d ever had. But he’d paid me a compliment.) “Too bad you can’t remember it,” I concluded with a modest smile.
Eric looked like I’d hit him in the forehead with a mallet. For all of thirty seconds his reaction was completely gratifying.

Quote of the Day

Eric was holding my hands, and I was digging my nails into him like we were doing something else. He won’t mind, I thought, as I realized I’d drawn blood. And sure enough, he didn’t. “Let go,” he advised me, and I loosened my grip on his hands. “No, not of me,” he said smiling. “You can hold on to me as long as you want.”

“Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink.” I said, and Eric laughed out loud. That was why I liked him, I thought rosily; he “got” me.

I'd told myself I'd make up my own mind, no matter how Eric and I were tied by our blood exchanges. After all, I still had free will. But whether or not the inclination had been planted by Eric's blood donation, I found that my body was strongly in favor of returning the kiss and of trailing the palm of my hand down Eric's broad back. Through the fabric of his shirt, I could feel the muscles and tendons and the bones of his spine as they moved. My hands seemed to remember the map of Eric's topography even as my lips remembered the way he kissed. We went on this way very slowly for a few minutes as he reacquainted himself with me.

I didn't expect that he would hesitate when he got out of the car.
"Are you still mad?" I said, trying not to cry. Weeping would be craven, and I was forcing some steel into my backbone.
"Do you still love me?" he asked.
"You first." Childish.
"I'm not angry," he said. "At least, not anymore. At least, not right now. I should have encouraged you to find a way to break the bond, and in fact we have a ritual for it. I should have offered it to you. I was afraid that without it we would be parted, whether because you didn't want to be dragged into my troubles or because Victor found out you were vulnerable. If he chooses to ignore the marriage, without the bond I won't know that you are in danger."
"I should have asked you what you thought, or at least warned you what we were going to do," I said. I took a deep breath.
"I do love you, all on my own."
And he was up on the porch with me, and then he was p…

Eric was sitting on my bed, his face buried in his hands.

He looked up at me as I entered, and he looked shocked. Well, no wonder, what with the very thorough takeover and traumatic changing of the guard.

"Sitting here on your bed, smelling your scent," he said in a voice so low I had to strain to hear it. "Sookie...I remember everything."

"Oh, hell," I said, and went in the bathroom and shut the door. I brushed my hair and my teeth and scrubbed my face, but I had to come out. I was being as cowardly as Quinn if I didn't face the vampire.

Eric started talking the minute I emerged. "I can't believe I..."

"Yeah, yeah, I know, loved a mere human, made all those promises, was as sweet as pie and wanted to stay with me forever," I muttered. Surely there was a shortcut we could take through this scene.

"I can't believe I felt something so strongly and was so happy for the first time in hundreds of years," Eric said with some …

Eliminating the Rest of Sookie's Suitors

Two years ago I discovered and fell in love with the Southern Vampire Mysteries, then did a lot of speculating about how the series would end, and what every little interaction meant. I'm no longer certain about Sookie's romantic future, but I came across a thread I started at the Sookieverseblog, discussing the moment I believed that every suitor other than Eric was eliminated from competition. I still have hope that Sookie will spend her Dead Ever After with Eric, but I'm not confident.

So let's look at the optimism I had two years ago, and maybe I'll remember where all of that certainty came from!

"Eric!" I screamed right in his ear.

This got a bit of a reaction; he was so much older than Pam. His eyes opened a slit and tried to focus. "What?" he said.

"You have to get up! You have to! You have to get out!"

"Daytime," he whispered. He began to flop over on his side.

I slapped him harder than I've ever hit anyone in my life. I screamed, "Get up!" until my voice would hardly work.

"Do you love me?" he asked, his eyes fixing mine.

This was a little difficult to answer, especially considering what his fingers were doing.  "I love being with you, whether we're having sex or not.  Oh, God, do that again!  I love your body.  I love what we do together.  You make me laugh, and I love that.  I like to watch you do anything."  I kissed him, long and lingeringly.  "I like to watch you get dressed.  I like to watch you undress.  I like to watch your hands when you're doing this to me.  Oh!"  I shuddered all over with pleasure.  When I'd had a moment of recovery, I murmured, "If I asked you the same question, what would your answer be?"

"I would say exactly the same thing,"  Eric said.  "And I think that means I love you.  If this is not true love, it's as close as anyone gets.  Can you see what you do to me?"  He didn't really have to point.  It was pretty damn obvious.

“Then cut to the chase, honey.”
With a movement too fast for me to follow, Eric’s shirt was off, and while I was admiring the view, his other clothes followed.
“Do I actually get to chase you?” he asked, his fangs already out.
I made it halfway to the living room before he caught me. But he carried me back to the bedroom.

Fangirl Fridays – Eric Northman

Image
As you might already know (from Kathi's post), most of the Saucy Wenches originally met and got to know each other because of our mutual love of the Southern Vampire Mysteries. And more specifically, our lust, ahem, love for the one, the only Eric Northman, as portrayed by the incomparable Alexander Skarsgard in True Blood.

Eric Northman, the Sheriff of Area 5, is the oldest, sexiest, and most powerful vampire in the great state of Louisiana, and he perfectly personifies all that we expect and long for in our alpha males. He knows what he wants and is ruthless in his attempts at getting it. He is extraordinarily confident, and not only does he not make excuses for his nature, he relishes it. He is 100% sure of himself in every situation. He is protective and sexy as hell, and he always gets what he wants, every time, without exception.

But don’t let this BAMF fool you. He has a playful heart, and can be thoughtful and kind as well. I’m not talking about merely paying attention and…

The Saga of the Saucy Wenches

Once upon a time, from lands far and wide, a group of women came unto the Great Search Engine Google, enthralled by Charlaine Harris’s Southern Vampire Mysteries. They were looking for answers. Looking for like minds. Hoping to talk and learn more about the characters they’d grown to love. And before long, they realized they’d stumbled across a pretty cool little book club.

We’ve mentioned a few times that the Wenches met each other because of the Southern Vampire Mysteries. You might ask yourself, “How did a seemingly inauspicious little book series manage to bring together all these crazy women who babble incessantly about book boyfriends awesome ladies? The short answer is (1) we were obsessed and (2) talented fans who’d come before us had created the SookieVerseBlog, where we all were drawn like moths to the flame....

The release of the final SVM book next month is a poignant moment for us: something we’ve eagerly awaited... yet dreaded, because it means the end of a journey togethe…

My Top Three UF/PNR Male LeadsOne of my first posts on this great blog was about my Top 3 UF/PNR heroines. It made me think of the men that woo & pursue them, and where they stand. Whether they deserve our Kick Ass heroines. And just where they belong on the Alpha totem pole. Our book boyfriends are a large part of the "general inappropriateness" and "fangirling" we talk about so much. The men who get our pulses racing, our hearts melting, our eyes tearing up, who can make us get angrier at them than the heroine is or forgive them faster than the heroine does. The men who are responsible for many sighs and swoons. The ones we WANT the women we adore to end up with. And the reason we invest so heavily in their HEAs. (Mainly because we can't have them... since life isn't fair.)

So I sat down and thought about it, and almost changed my mind about doing this post at all. I COULD NOT CHOOSE! It was like picking which toe I would willingly cut off. I wrote t…

"Before I could blink he was on his knees in front of me. pushing my legs apart, leaning in to kiss me. 'I think you know how I feel,' he said, in a whisper. 'We are bonded. Can you believe I’m not thinking of you while I work? When my eyes open, I think of you, of every part of you.' His fingers got busy, and I gasped. This was direct, even for Eric. 'Do you love me?' he asked, his eyes fixing mine." Eric Northman Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris
