ARC Review: Garden of Dreams and Desires by Kristen Painter

It's been very busy on my TBR thus far in 2015, with new installments, and some final books, in several of my favorite series, and Garden of Dreams and Desires in the last one I've been on pins and needles waiting for since I closed the last book. I told you how much I loved the first and second installments. I've actually had this book on my hot little hands for a month now, but since learning that it was going to be the last installment in the Crescent Cityseries, I've been putting off starting it. I wasn't ready to let go of Augustine, Harlow, Lally, Olivia, and all of the wonderful characters that make up this rich world, not to mention leaving behind New Orleans again.

I finally started the book, and while I dragged my feet a bit getting to the end, I  finally made it to the end of the journey. Come with me through the jump and I'll tell you whether the adventure was all I had hoped for. I will attempt to keep it spoiler free, as always.

The Wenches' Top Ten of 2014

Image
It's time once again, Saucy Readers, to look back over our year and to whittle down our read lists to our ten favorite reads of 2014. As our TBRs continued to grow, we managed to check some books off that list, and some of those books were absolutely wonderful. New series, continuations of favorites, classics that were new to us, and Wench recommendations, all earned a place on our list.

Come with us through the jump and find out which books earned a place in our hearts, and on our "best of 2014" list.

ARC Review and Giveaway: City of Eternal Night

Magic and mystery collide in this second installment of the new urban fantasy series by House of Comarre author Kristen Painter.

Still coming to terms with their unexpected partnership, Augustine and Harlow have a tentative truce. With Harlow slowly working to accept being fae, Augustine still learning how to be Guardian, and feelings growing on both sides though, they do not have an easy road ahead.

But when a young girl is stolen from the Mardi Gras Exemplar Ball -- the biggest fae event of the year -- Harlow and Augustine must put all their issues aside to bring her home alive. Harlow's father, Branzino, is of course their number one suspect, but evil lurks in every corner of the city and time is running out. Their only choices: Either find a way to rescue the girl, or Augustine must die.

As I've been raving about since I read it, I adored Kristen Painter's House of the Rising Sun (I told you about it here) and couldn't wait to read the second book in the Cre…

They should be afraid of me. I am by far and away the most frightening creature that lives in this city.

"This is..." She frowned at her visitor before introducing him. "Fartus Wanker."

"Fenton Welch," the man corrected sternly.

Harlow smiled. "I've never had one, but it sounds like just the thing." She sighed. "Too bad it's too early."

"Too early for what?" Lally asked.

"For a drink."

This time Lally laughed. "You got a lot to learn, Miss Harlow. This is New Orleans. Ain't no such thing as too early for a drink in this town."

Lally reached over to give his arm a squeeze. "I know it's hard for you having a mother like that, but the way she is toward you? That's her burden to bear, not yours."

But Augustine's pride was so genuine it sang through her body like white light, searching out the dark, ugly places and making them...less ugly.

Family wasn't about the blood that connected you to other people, it was about the people who chose to be connected to you. The people who stood at your side, who faced
the demons, fought the battles and helped patch you up afterwards. The realization put a smile on his face.

Review: House of the Rising Sun by Kristen Painter

I saw the cover for this book all over the place, back in May when it was released, and being set in New Orleans I was definitely interested, but going through a post-amazing-series funk and could not get into anything new. Fast forward to August, I'd just read the next installments in three of my favorite series (including the one that wrecked me in the Spring!) as well as a great erotic-romance, and I was finally ready for this book.

Did the book live up to the gorgeous cover? Did the author's story do NOLA justice? Does she have a new fan, or am I sorry I bothered? Click through to find out what I thought of House of the Rising Sun. Spoiler free. I'm getting better and not giving the good stuff away.
