“I love you,' Buttercup said. 'I know this must come as something of a surprise to you, since all I've ever done is scorn you and degrade you and taunt you, but I have loved you for several hours now, and every second, more. I thought an hour ago that I loved you more than any woman has ever loved a man, but a half hour after that I knew that what I felt before was nothing compared to what I felt then. But ten minutes after that, I understood that my previous love was a puddle compared to the high seas before a storm. Your eyes are like that, did you know? Well they are. How many minutes ago was I? Twenty? Had I brought my feelings up to then? It doesn't matter.' Buttercup still could not look at him. The sun was rising behind her now; she could feel the heat on her back, and it gave her courage. 'I love you so much more now than twenty minutes ago that there cannot be comparison. I love you so much more now then when you opened your hovel door, there cannot b

"Is that them?” My mother called. “I thought I heard the door.” “It had better be,” I said, taking a pan out of the oven and carefully setting it on the counter. “This roast is at peak deliciousness. I’m not waiting for them to dive in. It would be a crime. A declaration of war against fine cuisine everywhere.” My mother, used to my theatrics, smiled. “Sydney’s not here yet either.” “Oh,” I said. “Well, I’ll wait for her.” The Ruby Circle ~~Richelle Mead

Review: The Ruby Circle by Richelle Mead

Image
It's been a whirlwind of new releases in several of the Wenches' favorite series, and the final installment in Richelle Mead's fantastic Bloodlines series fell right in the middle of that whirlwind. I picked that baby up just as soon as I could get my hands on it, although I was a little sad that it was time to let go of Sydrian. Their story has been so wonderful, as I told you about here and here , that I wasn't sure I was ready to let go. But I finally opened the book and discovered how Richelle Mead wrapped up one of my best finds of last year. Do I still recommend this series, now that it's concluded, or is it better left at the bottom of your TBR?  Click through to find out if The Ruby Circle gave our intrepid couple an ending they deserved.

“This is where the wise man turns away. This is where the holy kneel and call on God. These are the last miles, my brothers. Don't look to me to save you. Don't think I will not spend you. Run if you have the wit. Pray if you have the soul. Stand your ground if courage is yours. But don't follow me. Follow me, and I will break your heart.”

"I think most people who have suffered great losses in their lives - great tragedies- come to a crossroads. Maybe not right then, but when the shock wears off. It may be months later; it may be years. They either expand as a result of their experience, or they contract. If that sounds New Age-y -- and I suppose it does -- I don't apologize. I know what I'm talking about.  Charles Jacobs had contracted." Revival by Stephen King.

Fangirl Friday: Hugh Grant

Image
On this week’s edition of Fangirl Fridays, I’d like to talk about one of my favorite actors: Mr. Hugh Grant. Many of my favorite movies have one thing in common: him. I don’t know what it is exactly. Maybe it’s his delightful British accent, his crooked smile, the little twinkle in his eye, or the perfect delivery of his lines. He’s been in dozens of films and television shows, however I’m going to stick to the movies I actually own (and watch over and over!). In these films he plays a variety of roles: good guy, self-absorbed prick, cad, earnest politician -- and I enjoy his performance in each one.

ARC Review: Dead Heat (Alpha and Omega #4) by Patricia Briggs

Image
They say opposites attract. And in the case of werewolves Anna Latham and Charles Cornick, they mate. The son-and enforcer-of the leader of the North American werewolves, Charles is a dominant alpha. While Anna, an omega, has the rare ability to calm others of her kind. Follow me through the jump and read a non-spoilery review of the fourth installment of the Alpha and Omega Series, Dead Heat , which hits shelves and e-readers on March 3.     For once, mated werewolves Charles and Anna are not traveling because of Charles’s role as his father’s enforcer. This time, their trip to Arizona is purely personal, as Charles plans to buy Anna a horse for her birthday. Or at least it starts out that way... Charles and Anna soon discover that a dangerous Fae being is on the loose, replacing human children with simulacrums. The Fae’s cold war with humanity is about to heat up—and Charles and Anna are in the cross fire.

"I've been trying for three days not to think about the Bore." "Is it really that bad?" Durnik asked in a sinking voice. "I make a special point of not going through it sober," Silk told him. Barak laughed, "You ought to be thankful for the Bore, Silk," he said. "It keeps the Empire out of the Gulf of Cherek. All Drasnia would be a Tolnedran province if it wasn't there." "I admire it politically," Silk said, "but personally I'd be much happier if I never had to look at it again." Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings

Quote of the Day

"What does it say?" "Eternal life, undying passion."    "Oh, that's very nice." It was a beautiful phrase, and particularly appropriate for immortal vampires. Ethan nodded and took my hands. "I had a sense of your passion when we met, Merit. When you first stormed into my House with fire in your eyes."    "That wasn't fire. That was sheer, unmitigated fury."    He chuckled. "Acknowledged. But a soul without passion doesn't feel fury. Or love. And there was definitely passion in your soul. I selected the phrase because I thought it lovely. Now, I feel lucky that I can deem it true."    Tears gathered at my lashes.    "I have eternal life," he said. "But you are my undying passion." He puts his hands on my cheeks and kissed me deeply. There was passion in his kiss, in the nip of his tongue, but this kiss was about promise. About tenderness.    About love.    He drew back and pressed the s

Fangirl Friday: Stan The Man

Image
My Fangirl Friday is about Stannis Baratheon, the First of His Name, second son of Lord Steffon Baratheon and Lady Cassana of House Estermont, Lord of Dragonstone, the man styling himself King of Westeros. If you are a Game of Thrones (on HBO) fan, you are probably wondering, “Why???” I know, I know…he does seem super boring, lame, and a whiner. He's also like that sibling that pitches a fit when he doesn't get his way. However, in my defense, I’m reading the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin, so I probably have more information than you do if you are only watching the show. Follow me through the jump for some *spoilery*  reasons why Stan should be Your Man! (For King of Westeros…not for anything else…he’s not hot…LOL)

Quote of the Day

This relationship was real, which meant I could--for the first time--experience a meaningful Valentine's Day. Not because of pink roses or nougat-filled chocolates, but because of us. Because I'd found someone who made me better, stronger, and because, at least I like to think, I did the same for him. That was worth celebrating, treasuring, being grateful for. Review: Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter #7) by Nalini Singh

Image
From Goodreads: In the wake of a brutal war, the archangel Raphael and his hunter consort, Elena, are dealing with the treacherously shifting tides of archangelic politics and the people of a battered but not broken city. The last thing their city needs is more death, especially a death that bears the eerie signature of an insane enemy archangel who cannot—should not—be walking the streets. This hunt must be undertaken with stealth and without alerting their people. It must be handled by those who can become shadows themselves… Ash is a gifted tracker and a woman cursed with the ability to sense the secrets of anyone she touches. But there’s one man she knows all too well without a single instant of skin contact: Janvier, the dangerously sexy Cajun vampire who has fascinated and infuriated her for years. Now, as they track down a merciless killer, their cat-and-mouse game of flirtation and provocation has turned into a profound one of the heart. And this time, it is Ash’s secret

Deadly Spells by Jaye Wells: A Review

Image
Let me begin by saying I love ARCs. And I adore our favorite authors who send us ARCs and NetGalley copies of their books. Once again, the Wenches were lucky enough to view Jaye Wells' latest Kate Prospero book, Deadly Spells , on NetGalley! Woohoo! Since I adored the first two, I got to this IMMEDIATELY! If you want to catch up before venturing into this review, here are the Wenches' reviews of Dirty Magic and Cursed Moon ! (Both 4 star reads!)  (On a side note, these books probably have some of my favorite covers! BAD.ASS!) Click through to read the Wench review of Deadly Spells ! Very mildly spoilery. Fangirl Friday: Vlad Dracul

Image
Vladislav Basarab Dracul (From Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress and Night Prince novels.) Vlad Tepesh, Vlad the Impaler, Prince, no matter what name you know him by, you know two things to be true. He is an arrogant, charming, loyal, deadly man.  Don't EVER call him Dracula. For those of you who don't know who I'm talking about, do yourselves a favor and pick up Jeaneine Frost's Night Prince series, and the Night Huntress series while you're at it. That is where we meet Vlad Dracul, vampire, pyrokinetic, and subject of this week's Fangirl Friday! First things first, let me just say that sometimes, Vlad is a controlling, utterly irritating, great big bag of dicks. He is so infuriating sometimes I want to shake him. But, the logical part of my brain knows why he does what he does. So, I just shake my head and wait for him reveal why he acted like he did. He always makes me love him again. And, after reading  Bound by Flames , I love him more than

Bound... and Determined! (A review of Bound by Flames by Jeaniene Frost)

Image
( Wench Care ) Welcome aboard, Saucy Readers! It's been an exciting couple weeks for new releases! Wench Anne and I were the only two (as I recall) who weren't in the process of devouring Burned as soon as it came out, but really that seems to only have been because we were saving up all our loves for the release of the newest Vlad book from Jeanine Frost: that's right, Night Prince #3, Bound by Flames released on January 27! Now, personally, I'd been so caught up in reading The Belgariad and The Malloreon that I'd completely lost track of the date. So the evening of the 26th found me frantically racing through the first two books trying to get ready for the third. Unsurprisingly, but also wonderfully, it was totally worth the effort! ( Wench Anne ) I was waiting with bated breath for bound by flames. Initially, I just reread Twice Tempted . But, after reading that, I had to go back to Once Burned . I just couldn't get enough of Leila and Vlad. And, now, w

It may or may not come to pass, but if it does it will test you beyond imagining. If that hour comes, you must hold on to one thing. I shiver again. What? Love. You can only be broken without it. So long as the smallest spark of love, pure, protective, and good, exists within you, that which is Keltar in you will survive. You will return. — Karen Marie Moning, Burned

"Bathing in winter is dangerous, Lady Polgara," the count warned her. "My Lord," she stated gravely, "I've been bathing winter or summer for more years than you could possibly imagine." "Let her bathe, Reldegen," Mister Wolf urged. "Her temper deteriorates quite noticeably when she thinks she's getting dirty." "A bath wouldn't hurt you either, Old Wolf," Aunt Pol retorted tartly. Psychic Storm - Book Bundle

Image
We were offered an ARC for Psychic Storm by the wonderfully, talented Jordan Castillo Price. It is collection of ten works with a psychic edge in them and her fantastic book Among the Living (Psycops #1) has been included in the book bundle. Among the Living is one of my favourite paranormal novels and I've read it a couple of times now. As Jordan's book was in the bundle I knew there would be other books that would catch my interest and be to my reading tastes. Psychic Storm Release February 3rd 2015 $0.99 AMAZON / GOODREADS  / SMASHWORDS  / ITUNES Check after the jump for a description of each book.
