"First Hunger," he announced. But the words meant nothing.
I looked down at his long fingers on my arm, and felt the warm rush of fire again. I curled my toes against it, reveled in the heat of it. This meant something. The feeling, the need, the thirst. I looked up at Ethan, dragging my gaze past the triangle of skin that showed through the top, unfastened button of his shirt, then the column of his neck, the strong line of his jaw, and the sensuous curves of his lips. I wanted blood, and I wanted it from him. "Ethan," I whispered in a voice so husky I barely recognized it. Ethan's lips parted, and I saw the flash of silver in his eyes. But it was gone in an instant, replaced by smoky green. I edged closer to his body, wet my lips, and then, without a single thought as to the consequences or what the act admitted, pressed them to his throat. He smelled so good - clean, soapy, everything male and masculine. He tasted so good - of power and man. The ends of his ha…

"All right, Sentinel. You have your second chance at Valentine's Day. But I'll warn you in advance. I'm starving...and not just for food."
That comment made me light-headed enough that it was a miracle I didn't fall over in the foyer.

Biting Bad by Chloe Neill

Quote of the day

“There are few things in the world that he loves more than this House, Merit. Possibly only one.” At the knowing gaze in his eyes, my cheeks flushed. “And in all the world, he entrusted one girl, one scholar, with the right to defend it.”

Review(ish): Hard Bitten and Drink Deep by Chloe Neill

Image
It doesn't really need to be said that we are in the last year before the final Chicagoland Vampires book releases, but that looming event, combined with the spectacular penultimate book, Midnight Marked, have some of the Wenches taking our time revisiting the journey of our favorite vampires. I recently told you about my reread of my favorite CLV book, Twice Bitten, here, and Anne and Zee are going to be reviewing Some Girls Bite and Friday Night Bites soon, and Anne has had questions in posts here, here, and here.

But I just finished Hard Bitten and Drink Deep, and I have lots of thought about these two books. First of all, it is imperative that one reads both books together. You simply cannot stop, or even pause between the two because Hard Bitten is devastating. So if you haven't gotten this far in the series (and really, what are you waiting for?) then read HB and DD and then join us back here for some super spoilery discussion. If you are well past these two, as most all …

"You can run. You can keep running to the ends of the earth. But I won't be far behind you."

"Ethan--"

"No. I will never be far behind you." He tipped up my chin so that I could do nothing else but look back into his eyes. "Do the things you need to do. Learn to be a vampire, be a warrior, to be the soldier you are capable of being. But consider the possibility that I made a mistake I regret--and that I'll continue to regret that mistake and try to convince you to give me another chance until the earth stops turning."

He leaned forward and pressed his lips to my forehead, my heart melting even as my more rational side harbored suspicions.

"No one said love was easy, Sentinel."

Review:Twice Bitten by Chloe Neill

It's no secret that many of us adore Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires series since we've talked about it early and often as long as we've been a blog. But even those of us who are superfans don't often agree on our favorite characters, let alone our favorite book of the series. And that's okay, because we can appreciate one another's tastes. For the record, my favorite character is Merit (which I told you about when I shared my favorite UF heroines) with Ethan coming in a very close second.

Twelve books in, though, my favorite installment in the series remains the third chapter in Merit's tale, Twice Bitten. While this book is almost six years old now, and nine books and three novellas have come out since then, this one contains my very favorite quotes from the series, my favorite scenes, and the moments that laid the foundation for the Methan we would all come to adore. I talked about the journey Methan took to get to one another, here, and Twice Bitt…

Fangirl Fridays - Chicagoland VampiresYou know, as long as we've been around, I am shocked me and Barb haven't gotten around to writing a Fangirl Friday post on this series. I mean, yes, we've talked about this series a lot. And I mean a lot. We've done FF posts on both Merit and Ethan, on Merit's love of food here, Barb's talked about how awesome Chloe Neill is here. I went a little insane and wrote an entire post about ONE event in the series (A PILE OF ASH ON THE FLOOR!! *SOBBING*) and how it destroyed my life here. I've painstakingly gone through a billion people to get the dream fancasting just right for the series here. In fact, one click on our Chicagoland tag here will show you we quote it on a regular basis and talk about the series a whole lot more than we do about other stuff.

Our love for this series and the author could not be more apparent. It's obvious in every nook and cranny of this wonderful blog. But I thought I'd just give you gu…

A VERY Spoilery Discussion by Zee the Terrible and Barbara Bones
Readers, it's been nearly a month since the release of the latest Chicagoland Vampires book, which Barb reviewed here, and we are still awed by how fabulous this book was, how fantastic this series still is after eleven installments. It's finally time for us to have a deep, dirty, thorough, and extremely spoilery discussion of the latest book in the series that is already one of our favorite releases this year! Chloe Neill's Dark Debt! Yes, we know. You're so surprised... not.

And for those of you who want to catch up, our spoilery discussion of Blood Games is here

The Wenches Cast...

...Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires!I do believe our regular Saucy readers have a fairly good idea about how much most of us love Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires series. We love reading the books, talking about them, and writing about them. Basically anything to do with them! So this post is just another excuse to obsess over them!

Wench Anne did a brilliant job before the House Rules release telling us her casting picks for one of our favorite series. Honestly, I loved most of her choices! But I thought, in honor of Dark Debt and how awesome it was, (read Barb's non-spoilery review here) why not do another one. Just for fun! And for the man (and woman) candy obviously.

I will assume you have read the books up to Dark Debt! (It may contain a few character descriptions from Dark Debt, but nothing else.)

Quote of the Day

Ethan held out his hand. In his palm was a glossy blue box with a silver "C" engraved in the top. Brow furrowed, I took it from him.

"What's this?"

"An apology of sorts."

I made a moue, but slipped the lid from the top...and then my breath left me.

Inside the box sat a baseball, its well-worn white leather marked by the signatures of every Cubs player from
the team. It was just like the one I'd had--just like the one I'd told him about the night we'd made love.

I blinked down at the box, trying to take in the gravity of the gift. "What--where did you get this?"

Ethan slid his hands into his pockets. "I have my sources."

"You shouldn't have."

He stopped me with his hand at my jaw, thumb against my chin. "Sometimes, people must adapt. Immortality doesn't make the things we love less important; it means we must learn to treasure them. Protect them."

I swallowed hard and made myself lift my gaze to him, f…

A VERY Spoilery Discussion by Zee the Terrible and Barbara Bones Blood Games, the tenth installment in the Wench favorite Chicagoland Vampires series, released two weeks ago, and while Barb told you that it was fantastic in her review, she kept the details to a minimum. Well, we've been dying to discuss those details ever since, and we can't hold back any longer.

So come with us through the jump, and we're going to dish on all of the glorious details.

Wild Things Blog Tour and Interview with Master Sullivan

Image
Today is the day, dear readers! You can get your hands on the brand new ninth installment in the fabulous Chicagoland Vampires series. Head Wench Barb reviewed it here, and loved it. And we'll be talking about it again next week, since there are some rather important developments we need to discuss.

Since Merit was turned into a vampire, and the protector of Chicago’s Cadogan House, it’s been a
wild ride. She and Master vampire Ethan Sullivan have helped make Cadogan’s vampires the strongest in North America, and forged ties with paranormal folk of all breeds and creeds, living or dead…or both.
But now those alliances are about to be tested. A strange and twisted magic has ripped through the North American Central Pack, and Merit’s closest friends are caught in the crosshairs. Gabriel Keene, the Pack Apex, looks to Merit and Ethan for help. But who—or what—could possibly be powerful enough to out-magic a shifter?
Merit is about to go toe to toe, and cold steel to cold heart, to fin…

Fangirl Fridays – Ethan Sullivan

Another week of Fangirl Fridays and another opportunity to share our love for a beloved character with you!

Those of you who are familiar with us know we are impatiently anticipating Biting Bad (release date Aug 9th), since not all of us got our hands on the Advance Release Copy like Barb did! We adore SO many characters in that series, it's hard not to get carried away while talking about them! So why not take it one at a time!

This week, Barb and I are going to tell you why we absolutely adore Ethan Sullivan! (Yeah, because it's such a secret. We've NEVER mentioned it before!)

**Warning--we simply cannot do Master Sullivan justice without discussing what has happened in the books. So if you haven't read through House Rules, be warned, there will be spoilers ahead!

Quote of the Day

We simultaneously looked over to where Ethan, half naked, was toeing off his black leather loafers. The muscles in his abdomen clenched as he moved. So did the lines of corded muscle across his shoulders.

God, but he was beautiful.

I narrowed my gaze.

Beautiful but evil. Wicked. The repugnant dregs of foul malevolence. Or something.

“Jesus,” Mallory whispered. “I want to support your quest for revenge and all, but maybe you should just let him glamour you.” She looked at me, and I could tell she was trying not to laugh. “Either you’re fucked, or you’re fucked, right?"

Beyond Here Lies Nothing

Image
When Chloe Neill Ripped My Heart Out Of My Chest and Crushed It With Her Bare Hands (& then made it all better.)I love authors. I love the words they write, the characters they create for us to love and hate. The power of the feelings they convey through those words and characters. And the way they transport me to a world so different from my own, I can't help but be mesmerized by it. One thing I don't love so much (but... like a true masochist, I love to hate) is their power over me. With just a few words, they can turn my life upside down, rip apart the threads that kept my sanity together, tear down the walls I built around my vulnerable heart over and over again, and basically crush me like a flower rusted from the rain. (Hey, I'm not being THAT dramatic; it's a song!)

MAJOR SPOILERS: There are spoilers for Hard Bitten, Drink Deep, and Biting Cold ahead. Please don't keep reading if you don't want to spoil the very amazing Chicagoland Vampires series f…

Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)

My Top Three UF/PNR Male LeadsOne of my first posts on this great blog was about my Top 3 UF/PNR heroines. It made me think of the men that woo & pursue them, and where they stand. Whether they deserve our Kick Ass heroines. And just where they belong on the Alpha totem pole. Our book boyfriends are a large part of the "general inappropriateness" and "fangirling" we talk about so much. The men who get our pulses racing, our hearts melting, our eyes tearing up, who can make us get angrier at them than the heroine is or forgive them faster than the heroine does. The men who are responsible for many sighs and swoons. The ones we WANT the women we adore to end up with. And the reason we invest so heavily in their HEAs. (Mainly because we can't have them... since life isn't fair.)

So I sat down and thought about it, and almost changed my mind about doing this post at all. I COULD NOT CHOOSE! It was like picking which toe I would willingly cut off. I wrote t…
