Wench Review of...

Image
Dark Skye by Kresley ColeReaders probably know by now that most of us got into the Immortals in the Dark series a long time ago, and I personally went with Wench Shau's recommendation (she talks about the series here.) of this being a fun, light, sexy read, and I wasn't disappointed. At least not until the last few books.

But then came Lanthe and Thronos, and the upcoming release of Dark Skye. And I was intrigued again. I had been looking forward to this one for the past few books. The few snippets of Lanthe and Thronos we'd gotten had me eager for more. But the way the last few books have gone, I wasn't very hopeful on me enjoying these as I had most of the earlier books.

You can read my MacRieve review here (I wasn't a fan). I still picked Dark Skye up when I got a chance. And read it. Click through to see what I thought!

Spoilery. Not too spoilery. But spoilery enough for the spoiler prudes among us! Did I say spoiler too much?

Why read a long series? Be daring and trust us!

Say you have a friend and she's constantly gushing over a book and she's trying to get you to read it. Let's say you are not like me who avoids those books like the plague just because someone else recommended them. No, you decide to read the book. You ask your friend to lend you this amazing piece of literature and she does. But just as she's handing it to you she drops this little nugget: „this is the first book in a series of 15 books so far and there are more coming out“. Now what??
Do you:
1.Run away never looking back?

2.Decide to be brave and take on this daunting task?

3.Say you'll wait for the TV show?

After the jump we'll try to give you all the necessary reasons to choose number two.

In a bemused tone, Nereus asked, "Why is sex the only endeavor where a male hopes his partner is a rank novice?"
Lanthe couldn't stop the grin that spread over her face. "Why indeed?"

"If you help me get this collar off," she told Thronos, "I could create a portal to wherever you want."
Or she could command him to repeatedly stab himself in the dick. The she'd run away as fast as she could manage - seeing as she would be laughing really hard.

Wench Review of MacRieve : IAD #13

Review of MacRieve : Immortals After Dark #13
I'm going to start this by saying I really love some of the installments in this series. This is the first series of the genre that has werewolves that I actually love. Bowen was great but Garreth, Garreth completely swept me off my feet *sigh*. I love Kresley Cole for being the only author who made me love two werewolves and a demon (Cade, my love) more than any of the vampires.
That being said, I haven't really enjoyed an IAD book since Malkom and Carrow's. Regin's book made me want to punch a wall, and Lothaire was a good book when I tried (hard) to forget the romance aspect of it. So I was looking forward to reading about another Lykae, especially Uilleam after everything he went through at the Order's facility.
Did MacRieve get me out of my IAD funk? Or was it just another installment that disappointed me.Click through to see my review.Spoilers!

The One Where Wench Jaymie Made Wench Veronica Read a Book

Image
Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole

You know the drill by now, right? Lucky Wench Jaymie drew my name from the virtual hat, and had the fortune or misfortune to pick a book for me to read. I say misfortune because, having participated in the process, I know how difficult it is to find a book that your partner hasn't read yet, and how nervewracking it is to find something you think they'll love as much as you did.

Jaymie picked the Immortals After Dark series for me, and I was very excited for her choice. I knew the Wenches had picked Kresley Cole quotes for several Quotes of the Day, and the IAD series had come up in discussions before. I'm always looking for new and different UF/PNR series to try, but always feel a little lost when I go looking for one amongst the sea of choices out there.

Why Immortals After Dark for Veronica?

What attracted me to the IAD series was not only the paranormal romance aspect of it, but the strong females, witty banter between the sexes, and…

"Boyfriends?" He frowned. "You mean lovers. How bloody many have you had?" He stopped. "Are you free with yourself then? With other males? Because that'll be ending—"

"What'd you think?" she asked over her shoulder. "That I was a virgin?"

"You're only twenty-three," he said, sounding very stodgy, even to himself. "And I try no' to think of any male before me. But if you were no' an innocent, then I'd hoped it would have been once, in the dark, with a ham-handed human who was so bad you had to stifle a yawn or fight against laughing."

She shrugged. "I'm sure the number of notches in my bedpost can't compare to yours."

"Aye, but I'm twelve hundred years old! Even if I had one female a year, you'd understand how they could accumulate."

"Well, I am young," Just as he felt a flicker of ease, she murmured in a sexy voice, "But, baby, I've been

A Brief Guide to the Immortals After Dark World

Image
Who's Who and What's What in...
Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole
They live in our world, hidden. Their world is called The Lore.

The Lore consists of Valkyries, Vampires, Lykae, Demons, Fey, Witches, Sorcerai, Furies and many more creatures.

There are 13 books so far and the 14th is going to be released soon.

I’ve been in love with these books for a long, long time. Some installments more than others but, all in all, I REALLY like them.

After the jump, I'll tell you some of the reasons why and introduce you to the fascinating characters.

“When she absently worried her bottom lip with one of her adorable little fangs, he sighed. The Enemy of Old fucking sighed.
Dear gods, it’d finally happened to him.
Happiness. Then his own fangs sharpened.  I will kill anyone who tries to take this feeling away from me.”

"No, maybe he's not perfect," she said. "But I bet he doesn't consider women to be tarts, who should be in a man's bed twenty four hours a day."

"I was jesting about that. Mainly. Almost totally." She glared.
"For the record, male Lorekind have higher opinions of females than human males do. The playing field's more equal in our world."

"Ha! I find it hard to believe that men who've lived for centuries—and might even be medieval—believe in equality more than a human male raised in the Madonna era."

"The Lore is home of the Valkyrie, Furiae, Witches, and Sirenae. You underestimate females, and you find your balls nailed to the wall."

"Goody" Nix muttered. “The dendrophiles.”

“The dendro what?” Neomi said.

“Tree lovers — the tree nymphs.”

Their obvious leader said, “Well, if it isn't Nucking Futs Nix and her hex hack.”

“Well, if it isn't the hookers,” Nix replied blandly.

“Oh, I'm sorry, nymphets, this isn't the orgy — that's down the road.”

Nix opened her mouth, then closed it, dragging Néomi and Mari away.

“Well, you can't argue with reason, can you?”

Quote of the Day

Last night, Dixon had suggested combat boots in place of Carrow's own — her two thousand dollar, gathered-leather, over-the-knee boots.

"Do you want me to go in as an enchantress or a warrior?" Carrow had asked testily.

"Pick a caste, any caste, mortal. I myself think I have the best chance as an enchantress. And fuck-me boots are standard issue."

“Holly's forgiven you?"
"Almost mostly. But she still gives me slack about it when she's sick. I take it as a husbandly badge," he said, puffing out his chest.
"Sick? You told me she was fully immortal."
"Yeah, but she still throws up some, because, well, the thing of it is... Ah, fuck, Rydstrom, I knocked her up."
"You're going to be a father? Gods help the world. I'm going to be an uncle?"
"I got Holly, like, on the first shot. Nix is calling me Bull's-eye and the WombRaider.”

Elizabeth is my happiness, he thought again. “I could hate her for what she did to me.”
“Because of one unsuccessful beheading?” She tapped her claw to her chin. “Wow. I never thought you were such a pussy. I’m rethinking our friendship.” ~Kresley Cole, Immortals After Dark series, Lothaire

"Twelve hundreds, give or take."

Quote of the Day

When she smirked, another Valkyrie passed in front of her, marching up to him, raking her gaze over him. "Hubba, hubba," she growled with a wink. "Emma caught herself a wolf." Her eyes zeroed in on his neck where Emma had drunk earlier, and she tilted her head. "Hmmm. You wear her bite like a badge you've earned." "And you must be the soothsayer--"  "I prefer predeterminationally abled, thank you." Her hand shot out, ripping a button from his shirt, so fast it was a blur. She'd taken the one closest to his heart, and for a moment her face turned very cold. She'd made a point-she could have gone for his heart. Then she opened her hand and gasped in surprise. "A button!" She smiled delightedly. "You can never have enough of these!"-Nix and LachlainA Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark series)-Kresley Cole
