Quote of the Day

“That was the thing about love, though, wasn’t it? When you loved somebody, you wanted to give them everything you could. You wanted what was best for them, no matter what. You wanted them to move beyond what was awful and terrible, beyond anything that had ever hurt them.”

Hold Me Close by Megan Hart

Hold Me Close by Megan Hart

We're always happy to read a new story by the amazing Megan Hart. Although, maybe "happy" wouldn't be the right word for the emotional roller coaster you're on for the duration of the book. She unfailingly delivers a story that makes you want to weep for so many reasons, and feel everything the main character is feeling.

Hold Me Close was no exception. I knew it would be a difficult one when I read the blurb. But wow. Ms. Hart deals with dark and difficult subject matter in a way I have yet to see another author do.

Apart, they are broken, but together, they are whole.
Effie and Heath are famous. Not for anything they did, but for what happened to them as teenagers. Abducted and abused by the same man, they turned to each other for comfort until they were finally able to make their escape. Now adults, their relationship is fraught with guilt and despair. Whether fighting or making love, their passion is strong enough to destroy them both — and Effie's not about…

"I am the sum of many parts."
"We all are." I smiled. "True." "Some of my parts would like to get to know some of yours a lot better," Niall said. I laughed again, shaking my head. "Bad, bad, bad. So bad." "You like a bad boy, though," he told me. "No," I said, leaning closer. "I like a very good boy."

Wench Review of...

Image
Megan Hart's VanillaReaders, it's my pleasure to bring you a review of yet another Megan Hart book. (Thank you NetGalley!) Our regular readers know we're huge fans of Ms.Hart's work, and for those who aren't that familiar with her, well we've reviewed quite a few of her books for you here at the Wenches'. You can check them all out in the Megan Hart tag here. You're welcome!
I wasn't too sure about Vanilla initially, since when I read about it I instantly zoned out at when people used the word "dominatrix" while talking about the protagonist of the novel. But, it was there on my Kindle, calling to me. So one day, when nothing else was tickling my fancy, I picked up my Kindle and dove right in!

Quote of the Day

She either loved him the way he was, which was no good for her, or she stopped loving him. But there's the problem with love--also like water, it works its way into every crack and crevice of a person, and it can break you worse than any sorrow. She couldn't stop herself from loving him, not just like that with a  snap of fingers and an iron will, but she could refuse to let it break her.

ARC Review--Flying by Megan Hart

Image
Ever hear of wanderlust? Every other weekend, Stella buys a ticket on the next flight out of town and leaves her life behind. Home is a place with too many memories, and departure is the sweetest possible distraction. As soon as she arrives at her destination, Stella visits the airport bar. She orders a drink and waits for the right guy to come along. A bored businessman, a backpacker, a baggage handler just off shift. If he's into a hot, no-strings hookup, he's perfect. Each time is a thrilling escape from reality that gives the term layover a whole new meaning. When Stella meets the enigmatic Matthew in Chicago one weekend, she hits some serious turbulence. Something about him tells her she's not the only one running from the past. The connection between them is explosive, and for the first time, one taste is not enough for Stella. But returning to find a gorgeous man waiting for her is the easy part & facing the reason she's there is a whole other matter.

Review: Every Part of You by Megan Hart

Image
Whenever we have a opportunity to read a Megan Hart book, especially when it's before release day, we jump at the chance. So when we were offered the opportunity to read Ms. Hart's next project, an e-book serial being released in five parts, Zee and I were all over that. I had heard about e-book serials, but hadn't read any, so I thought this would be interesting. Turns out I don't follow directions very well, and my patience does not extend to reading good stories.

Did I enjoy the story, despite my rule-breaking tendencies? Or did I find that breaking up the story impaired my enjoyment? Click through read my spoiler-free review and find out!

He laughed lightly and squeezed her closer. "It gets better, babe. I promise you, it does."
"I want to believe you." Aidan was quiet for a few seconds. "I wouldn't lie to you." Simone looked at him, wondering when he'd ever felt pain this way. For everything she knew about him, maybe there would still always be secrets they hadn't shared. "I know you wouldn't, Aidan. But..." "It will get better," he told her firmly, "Eventually, every pain fades. Even the worst, even the ones that leave scars. And they fade too." "But they never go away," Simone said, touching one on the inside of her elbow where once, long ago, Aidan had miscalculated and left her with more than a bruise. "No," he admitted, "They never go away."

The Wenches' Top Ten of 2013

Image
We all know how it is at the end of a year. Relief that it's over, and some apprehension and hope concerning the next one. Mostly, we're just grateful we survived with most of our sanity intact.

Thankfully, the Wenches have had a (mostly) great 2013 when it comes to what we've been reading. At the dawn of a new year, we thought it was apt that we'd reminisce about some of the best books we've read and loved this past year. You know, the ones we fell in love with almost immediately. The ones we might have reread almost obsessively. The ones we would recommend to everyone we know.So we all got together and put them in a list for you.

Click through to see which books the Wenches picked as their favorite reads of 2013!

Tear You Apart
~~Megan Hart

Quote of the Day

"I've never forgotten that Mary Sheeran, that lucky bitch, literally sees fireworks when she comes. Orgasms are pretty spectacular all on their own, but to see bursting and shifting patterns of color - that's always seemed like an extra bit of luck. And now it's happened to me."

I Don't Love You (Like I Did Yesterday)

Tear You Apart : A Review

I was absolutely thrilled to be able to view Megan Hart's latest release, Tear You Apart, earlier than release date on Netgalley because we love Ms. Hart's work here at SWBC! For me, it all started with Donna's review of Broken, and it has been a happy (and emotional) love affair since then.

This review is mildly spoilery.

Anniversary Special: Our Favorite Books from the Past Year

Image
Collectively, we’ve read a lot of books over the past year. Some are new releases, some are new discoveries, some are recommendations. It’s hard to pick out a list like this, because we didn’t want to limit it to new releases, and it’s so hard to pick just one. Or two. Or a few.

After the jump, we’ll share what we finally decided were our favorite reads from the past year.

Quote of the Day

Image
Knowing what you need doesn't always mean you know how to get it, though. I'd spent a long time hiding in my cave. No matter how much I might want to come out into the light, I knew it would hurt my eyes. I was a fool.

A fool, but nevertheless too smart not to know I was the architect of my own demise, that it was time to put my past behind me. It was time to stop allowing the white elephants to stand unspoken of in my living room.

This quote is for my fellow Wenches, both near and far.

Quote of the Day

Image
Dan smiled at me with lips still moist from mine. I have seen clouds part for the sun. I have seen rainbows. I have seen flowers in the morning, covered in dew, and I have seen sunsets so brilliant with fire they made me want to weep.

And I have seen Dan smile at me, his lips still wet from my kiss, and if I had to choose which sight moved me the most I would say it was that one.

The First Cut Is The Deepest

Dirty by Megan Hart: A Review

I picked up Dirty out of desperation. I was in a terrible book funk, the sort that happens when you've been reading a series for exactly 10 years, and the conclusion leaves you wondering whether you're even reading something written by the same author. I didn't feel like starting a new series. I just wanted ONE book that would make me forget.
Having read Broken by Megan Hart a long time ago, after Wench Donna's intriguing review, I figured, why not. If nothing else, erotica can distract you. So I got Dirty on my Kindle.

Click through to see what I thought of it and whether it did the trick!
