Love doesn't build cages. It builds stairways to the stars. High Voltage by Karen Marie Moning.

Quote of the Day

Everything pissed Barrons off. He lived on the razor's edge of eternal irritation. No doubt because he had to put up with mere mortals who thought too much when a good massacre would not only be more effective but much more fun.

Quote of the Day

"Are you certain?" he said so softly that she shivered, because she knew what soft meant from this hard, implacable man. It meant every ounce of his energy had just been diverted and channeled into a mother lode of a nuclear missile that was locked, loaded, and targeted on whatever had just offended him, and that he would expend no more energy than was strictly necessary to speak.

Quote of the Day

"The memory was always there, that’s how you found it. I merely kicked it beneath a rock. You put the entire force of your will behind my kicking it. You helped me hide it. I relieved you of what you considered a despicable stain in your mind. Best fucking night of my existence.” He laughs and shakes his head. “And you couldn’t get rid of it fast enough. I didn’t want to hide the memory from you. I wanted to cram it down your goddamn throat. I wanted to force you to face it, to want it, to want me, to be willing to fight for what was possible between us with the same single-minded devotion as you fucked. Well, Ms. Lane, you’ve got your precious memory back. Will you throw me away now?”

"Where's Mac?" Barrons says, soft, making my gaze dart back to him. Soft from him is a surgical knife poised above your jugular. "Has the bitch hurt her?"

If looks could kill! Someday somebody's gonna look at somebody about me like that.

Quote of the Day

"Who among the Fae likes you enough to do that favor?" I knew the answer to that. No one.

"The one I didn't kill when I demanded it. After I killed the other two."

I smiled faintly. One word: badass.

I want to be Jericho Barrons when I grow up.

Quote of the Day

There was a moment back there in the White Mansion. You didn't move. I wouldn't have minded if you had.
He opened his arms.
Truculence dissipated like a bubble bursting. When I bounded over the couch, sped across the bookstore, and flung myself into them, he caught me up and swung me around and I threw my head back, laughing just like a heroine in one of those romantic movies.

Quote of the Day

Image
Barrons glided toward me in that eerie, fluid fashion, stopped, and laced our hands together.

We would hold on to each other until the last.

Sun, moon, and stars, I told him.

He inclined his head. Of all the years, this one with you has been my finest. Fire to my ice, Mac.

Frost to my flame, Jericho.

Forever, we said, and it was a vow far more powerful and binding than any ring or piece of paper.

To Hell & Back

Image
Phew, readers. It's been a hell of a ride. It took me a while to decompress after Fevercon in NOLA. But here I am, ready to talk about Feversong and tell you why you should be reading it. And loving it. And crying with me.

In case you need a recap, read my Burned review here, and Feverborn review here, and spoilery discussion here. And then dive in and let's talk Feversong

There will be no main plot spoilers in this review! At most a few mildly spoilery quotes that won't give anything away. I'm saving that goodness for our super spoilery discussion coming very soon!

"Reason never works. There's an inherent bias in the system. The attacker has the offense, which makes the defense appear defensive, therefore guilty. "

Quote of the Day

Besides, Mac would be fine, even without the spear. She had the cuff, and she had Barrons at her side.
When something like Barrons walked at a woman's side, he walked there forever, and not even death would come between them. He would never permit it.
There was no place Mac could go that Barrons wouldn't follow.
Not even the Hall of All Days.

Leave Out All The Rest

Image
You guys, it's been an insane week. INSANE. There was the Feverborn book launch in New Orleans, which was amazing. Meeting more Wenches, always a treat. AND.. Meeting Karen Marie Moning. Which just about killed me. Some people just RADIATE awesomeness, and I swear.. basking in her presence was an honor. I talked about it a little here, in case you're interested. I did manage to NOT blurt out, awkwardly, how much I loved her and wanted to live in her brain. Barely.

So you can imagine how my emotions were basically all over the place, and kinda overwhelmed by meeting one of my favorite authors, being able to talk to her, and to get a book signed by her. And then... I read Feverborn. Jesus. My poor emotions. They've been through a lot.

Quote of the Day

I wasn't about to romanticize him. I knew he was ruthless. I've known that since the day I met him, and saw him staring at me across the length of the bookstore with cold, old eyes. Barrons does exactly and only whatever serves Barrons best. Period. Keeping me alive serves him best. Period. [snip]

Quote of the Day

"I'm asking the questions tonight." One day I was going to write a book: How to Dictate to a Dictator and Evade an Evader, subtitled How to Handle Jericho Barrons.
He snorted. "If an illusion of control comforts you, Ms. Lane, by all means, cling to it."
"Jackass." I gave him a look modeled on his own.
He laughed, and I stared, then blinked and looked away...For a moment there he hadn't looked dark, forbidding, and cold, but dark, forbidding, and...warm. In fact, when he'd laughed he'd looked...well...kind of hot.

Quote of the Day

"Ward this. Spell that. How did you navigate life before you met me?"

I shrug. "It's kind of like realizing you're married to Bewitched. Except not in the married sense," I add hastily. "But you know what I mean. Why break your back vacuuming when a saucy twitch of the nose can clean the whole house.?"

"My nose has never twitched, saucily or otherwise. And that was an utterly absurd premise. The only price for using magic was compounded human stupidity. Humans consistently engender chaos without violating alchemical principles."

"Oh, my God, you watched -- "

"I did not."

"Yes, you--"

"Did not."

You just said --"

"Inescapable pop culture."

"Oh, you so watched it."

BURNED by Karen Marie Moning

Quote of the Day

Image
“In bed, I steal moments of tenderness when sex has finally exhausted me to the point where I’m too bone weary to fret anymore about the enormous capacity for evil that’s taken up squatter’s rights inside me. I touch him, put all those things I don’t say into my hands as I trace the red and black tattoos on his skin, the sharp planes and hollows of his face, bury my hands in his dark hair. He watches me in silence when I do, eyes dark, unfathomable.
I sometimes wake up to find he’s pulled me close to him and is holding me, spooned into my back with his face in my hair, and those hands that don’t speak like mine don’t speak move over my skin and tell me I’m cherished, honored, seen.”

BURNED by Karen Marie Moning.

Quote of the Day

"What I know, {snip}, is you break every goddamned rule for Mac."
"Back at you {name removed} Difference is, I'll help you do it."
"Son of a bitch, Mac's ass is—" "Mine," Barrons says flatly. "You will never go there. You have a problem with Mac, you work it out with me. I am her shield, I am her second fucking skin."

Cure For The Itch

Image
Readers, the Wenches have been completely consumed by BURNED since release day! We've been suffering from an itch only the amazing Karen Marie Moning can scratch! This is the book we have been WAITING for since Iced. Iced was great. Loved it. But this. This was something else. On a whole other plane. It started off great, but once it hit it's halfway mark IT.BLEW.MY.MIND. Into smithereens. And after that it was just one epic ride--all you could do was hold on for dear life.
