Fangirl Friday - Pizza!
#1 Favorite - Authentic Chicago Deep Dish
I've been to Chicago a few times. My cousin and her husband live there, as well as my good friend and fellow wench, Anne. I've tried a few different pizza restaurants there: Giordano's, Piece, and Gino's East. My favorite Chicago deep dish is Gino's East. What I love about this particular deep dish is the thick, cornmeal crust. It is absolutely delicious!
Piece Brewery & Pizzeria is known to be one of the best in Chicago, but not necessarily for their deep dish. I had their handtossed, and it was good, but I can't say that it was memorable. I am probably in the minority on that, but maybe I was just in the mood only for Chicago's finest deep dish.
When I'm home, I'm not too picky about my pizza. I can go for the cheapest $5 Hot & Ready Little Caeser's. I can also go for the old standbys like Domino's, Papa John's, or Pizza Hut. The local independent pizza places are good, but not my usual. A few that I like here are Guisseppe's and Pizza Ravens. One of our local, Maryland chain pizza places is Ledo's pizza. Ledo's slogan is "We never cut corners." They have square pizza, but it's not sicilian (which tends to be square and thick). On the contrary, Ledo's is super thin with a flaky, but chewy, crust.
Another great option that we do for pizza at home is pizza bagels! All you need is a package of bagels, a jar of pizza sauce, and mozzarella cheese. It is economical, quick & easy, and the kids love them!
What do you like on your pizza?
Well, first, I'll tell you that I'm a sauce girl. Sometimes I order extra sauce! The good news is that extra sauce is free, unlike extra cheese. As far as toppings go, I tend to order mushroom and onions, primarily. I'll throw in something else sometimes, like a beef and onion, or pepperoni and onion, or banana peppers with mushroom and onions. Just pepperoni is just fine, and I also really enjoy just cheese! Maybe because just cheese allows me to really enjoy the cheese and sauce combination without the distraction of extra flavors.
Well, that wraps up my discussion of my favorite food, pizza! Are you all pizza lovers too???
I grew up in San Francisco. My cousins and I all agreed that the best pizza was from The Front Room. IN the early '90's, a Front Room Pizza opened in Vallejo, CA where I lived. I did the Snoopy happy dance over that! The Front Room special is everything except anchovies. Sheer perfection. I would eat 5 slices, even though I thought it was a bad idea halfway through the last slice. Now I live in Iowa and no decent pizza for 50 miles!
