Megan Hart
What do you think about your books being categorized as simply erotica, or erotic novels...when they are so much more?

First of all, thank you! Second…I write erotica and erotic fiction, so I have no problem with them being categorized that way. Sex is emotional. I’m not sure why people seem so surprised that a book with a lot of sex in it can’t also be emotionally compelling or fulfilling! As for being “more” – any great book is “more” than what it’s labeled as, I think.

Do your books ever make YOU cry while you’re writing them?

From start to finish.

Do you find it harder to write your amazing sex scenes or the heart-wrenching emotional confrontations and climaxes?

Amazing? Wow, thank you. I think it depends on what’s going on that day. Some days every word comes out like gold, and other days, not so much. I like writing all the scenes sometimes. Other times, I hate everything!

Your books are very emotional. Where does all that emotion come from?

I buy it on the internet…Actually, it comes from…well, I guess it comes from inside me. I’m full of emotion. I am a tsunami of emotion.

What do you find harder to write; the build-up of the story or the ending?

Again, it depends on how I’m feeling that day. I often write the end before some of the middle.

From Wench Naomi: I’ve read your bio and know that your first love was a book called "The Homecoming" by Ray Bradbury. What captured you in that short story?

I’ve always loved scary stuff, and that story was about a family of ghoulish vampires, fairies, etc. I just fell in love with it. And all of Bradbury’s work, actually.

From Wench Donna: I really love how your characters can appear peripherally in subsequent novels. Is this because you haven’t completely told their story already, or is it more a case of "seven degrees of separation"?

Thank you! I think it’s because, everyone is the hero or heroine of their own story. Sometimes I like to find out what that story is, and tell it! And also because nothing really ends. The book ends, but the characters would continue on (if they were real, which they aren’t. Ha.).

Also Donna: How do you recuperate after writing an emotionally draining scene? Do you find it therapeutic, or do you need a couple of boxes of tissues nearby?

I have to do a lot of deep breathing. Cry it out. It’s kind of ridiculous, but it is cathartic, too!

What is your favorite genre to read? And to write?

I love to read horror and science fiction. I love to write it, too. But I also love writing erotic. And mainstream. And romance. And…and….

What are some books, other than your own, that you would recommend for the Wenches and our readers? Something within your genre, and something completely different?

Boy’s Life and Swan Song by Robert McCammon
The Kushiel series by Jacqueline Carey
Chelsea Cain’s Archie & Gretchen books

I’m on a train.

I don’t know which stop I got on at; I only know the train is going fast and the world outside becomes a blur. I should get off, but I don’t. The universe is playing a cosmic joke on me. Here I had my life-a good life with everything a woman could want-and suddenly, there is something more I didn’t know I could have. A chance for me to be satisfied and content and maybe even on occasion deliriously, amazingly, exuberantly happy.

So this is where I am, on a train that’s out of control, and I am not just a passenger. I’m the one shoveling the furnace full of coal to keep it going fast and faster.

If I could make myself believe it all happened by chance and I couldn’t help it, that I’ve been swept away, that it’s not my fault, that it’s fate…would that be easier? The truth is, I didn’t know I was looking for this until I found Will, but I must’ve been, all this time. And now it is not random, it is not fate, it is not being swept away.

This is my choice. And I don’t know how to stop.

Or even if I want to.
