What the Wenches Are Reading

Source

As we settle into summer — or winter for those “down under” — our reading is beginning to pick back up. This week most of the Wenches are trying out new (or new-to-us) books by some of our (or other Wenches’) favorite authors. We seem to be pretty happy with what we’ve found!

What about you? Have you discovered something new and exciting to keep you on the edge of your seat? An old favorite with which to revisit fond memories? We hope you’ll let us know in the comments below!

Amanda: Another week reading A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. Khal Drogo is a total badass. I am so on the edge of my seat, I can’t stand it!

Anne: I finished my Ty & Zane reread. I actually read Stars & Stripes twice before having my heart broken by Touch & Geaux, but then Kelly & Nick put it back together with their Shock & Awe ficlet. I’m not sure I’m ready to leave that world yet. So I might start it all over again. We’ll see!

Angela:  This week I’ve read Tainted and Rebirth (Channeling Morpheus #4 and #5) by Jordan Castillo Price. I’ve enjoyed them. Hot sex. Wild Bill is sex on legs. Yummy. Plus they were short and sweet so I could read them in one sitting. I have to say, though, I think Price’s Magic Mansion book is pretty close to being my favourite of her work, or at least on par with the Psycops series.

Barbara: I finished Twice Tempted in thirty-six hours last week and didn’t plan to start anything else, since I was having company for the weekend and knew I had to get my house in shape! Then Entwined with You released on Tuesday and I couldn’t NOT read it! So I started it Tuesday night and had it finished on Thursday. Look for a review from me next week. Now, after a wonderfully emotional weekend, I’m looking for something to read next, and have no idea which direction to go!

Donna: This week I read Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh. I was really looking forward to Kaleb’s story and was not disappointed!

Kathi: I have been thoroughly traumatized by Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey this week. So I started rewatching Poldark. (Like I’ve said, watching these shows makes me feel like I’m reading classic period literature.) But I did muster the energy to begin Khaled Hosseini’s new novel, And the Mountains Echoed. I am still not sure what the story is, but it is beautifully written. His prose is wonderful and has managed to grab my interest away from the tv.

Merit: I am reading Oryx and Crake, a novel by Margaret Atwood. This book is described by the author as “speculative fiction.” It is a dystopian fantasy, about our world after a disaster, written in her unique, imaginative way. I am a third of the way through the story and very curious.

Natalie:  Nothing new this week for this wench!  I’m still slowly making my way through Outlander

Veronica: Still reading Magic Mansion by Jordan Castillo Price. It’s a story about a reality show of a group of magicians living together in a house, and the “normality” of the different characters, combined with the behind-the-scenes action of a reality show, make it the most delightfully bizarre thing I’ve read in quite a while. Magic Mansion could possibly take top place amongst my favorite JCP books (ahead of Channeling Morpheus).

  1. Natalie, you can keep reusing the same status for the next few months, if you decide to read the whole series. :-)

  2. Looks like another great week of reading for you all. I was curious if any of you have read or reviewed 'The Night Circus' by Erin Morgenstern? I fell in love with it the first time though, so now I am reading it to my husband. (One of the many ways we bond together)
