What the Wenches Are Reading

It's quite the mixed bag of reading choices for the Wenches this week! Primarily consisting of fantasy, mostly of the urban kind, we're reading new choices, old favorites, and a few recommended by other Wenches, although no two Wenches are reading the same thing! Also in the mix is a heavy non-fiction choice and perennial favorite, Outlander.

Amanda: I'm still reading Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews. Oh, how Kate makes me laugh!

Angela: Up this week was Double Cross (The Disillusionists #2) by Carolyn Crane. It ended with a great plot twist as well. I'm dying to know how it will all turn out. Justine Jones is one heroine that I'm backing to see how she survives the situation she now finds herself in.

Anne: I am going to be starting an advanced copy of Patricia Briggs's short story anthology from the world of Mercy Thompson, Shifting Shadows. I'm excited!

Barb: I was a short way into rereading Blood Games when I was distracted by Zee's review of Wallbanger by Alice Clayton. So I read it in just a few days. Enjoyed that so much, I'm planning to read the second in that series, Rusty Nailed, soon. Meanwhile, I got a review copy of House of the Rising Sun by Kristen Painter and absolutely loved it. Reviewed it (here) right away and thoroughly recommend it!

Donna: This week I read Dirty Magic by Jaye Wells. It's the first book in her Prospero's War U/F series, featuring a cop named Kate Prospero and a host of magical crime fighters, werewolves, Mundanes and Adepts (and some hot guys!). Zee reviewed it when it released, here. It's sometimes dark, but I found it an enjoyable and satisfying read. Me likey! Next up is to start Cursed Moon, Prospero's War #2. You can read Zee's review of that one, here.

Kathi: I finished listening to my reread of Outlander, Wentworth scenes and all! *shudder* Can’t imagine how those will get filmed for the TV series… And I am LOVING the TV series so far!!

Merit: I’m reading an intriguing book called Blood Song (Raven’s Shadow 1) by Anthony Ryan, an epic fantasy displaying an engaging and caching plotline with complex characters. There may be some parallels to other fantasy books we know, which does not diminish the originality of this story. Throw in a flawed but charismatic hero, empires wars, sword fights, politics and some hints of dark magic, and it is a very entertaining ride.

Shau: This week was spent worshipping Kate Daniels and drooling after Curran in Ilona Andrews's Magic Breaks. The story is coming to a certain closure and I'm loving it!

Zee: I started Max Blumenthal's Goliath, brand new release. Interesting so far. I also started Jennifer Rardin's Once Bitten,Twice Shy. I also added Wench Barb's recommendation of the week, House of the Rising Sun, to my list!

  2. Is this the first time ever that there isn't two of us reading the same book?

    1. Hmmm. Possibly. Although, I wrote the blurb before Amanda gave me hers, and she and Shau both read Magic Breaks.
