Black Dagger Brotherhood: Scenes That Left us Begging for More

What better way to prepare for the impending release of the next Black Dagger Brotherhood novel, Lover at Last by J. R. Ward, than to relive some of our favourite scenes in the previous books?! Some of these scenes were selected by multiple Wenches, others are just personal favourites. One is. Clearly. The. Wench. Favourite. It won't be hard to tell which one!

The Sink Scene

The sink scene between Vishous and Jane was the clear favourite amongst the Wenches for best scene of the series!! I'm sure at least a couple of Wenches have tried a reenactment a time or two. I won't name names, but the chapter was definitely inspiring. I think Wenches love it because Vishous is clearly in a commanding role and we know how he likes to have his sex; we can tell this is a different experience for him. Every time we read the below lines, we lick our lips, our breath catches, and our fantasies take flight:

She swallowed,"What, what are you going to do to me?"

He wheeled her to one side, all the while keeping his hips tight to her ass, " You see that sink, Jane?'

"Yes" Holy shit, she was going to orgasm.

"I'm going to bend you over that sink and make you hold on to the sides. Then I'm going to pull your pants off."

Bella Tells Zsadist She is Pregnant

Wench Olga summed up this scene perfectly: "When Bella tells Zsadist that she's pregnant and then he faints. Every time I read this scene there are butterflies in my belly. I think Z needed this young in order to make himself complete; to fight his ghosts and to give himself a reason to go on." Wench Olga concludes by saying simply that his reaction is priceless. "In our minds, we can picture him stammering, crying, and then fainting!"

Suddenly he stopped. "Are you sure you want my young?"

"Oh, yes. Oh, dear Virgin, yes. Even more now..." She smiled up at him. Took his hand. Placed it on her lower belly. "You're going to be a wonderful father."
And that was when he fell over in a dead faint.

Zsadist opened his eyes to find Bella looking down at him with love shining out of her face. All around his periphery there were other members of the household, but she was the only one he saw.

"Hi, there," she said softly. He reached up and touched her face. He was not going to cry. He was not. Oh, to hell with it.

He smiled up at her as the tears started rolling. "I hope... I hope it's a little girl who looks just like you." His voice cut out. And then, yeah, like a complete flipping nancy, he broke down totally and wept like an idiot.

Butch's Induction Ceremony

This scene was one of Wench Kat's favourite in the whole series. Basically it is Butch's induction into the Black Dagger Brotherhood and all that it symbolises. As Vishous has become Butch's best friend over the course of the series, it was only appropriate that they share this moment together.

In slow motion Vishous's dark head dropped down and there was a silken brush as his goatee moved against Butch's throat. With delicious precision, V's fangs pressed against the vein that ran up from Butch's heart, then slowly, inexorably, punched through skin. Their chests merged.

Butch closed his eyes and absorbed the feel of it all, the warmth of their bodies so close, the way V's hair felt soft on his jaw, the slide of a powerful male arm as it slipped around his waist. On their own accord, Butch's hands left the pegs and came to rest on V's hips, squeezing that hard flesh, bringing them together from head to foot. A tremor went through one of them. Or maybe... shit, it was more like they both shuddered.

Zsadist and Bella

Zsadist and Bella are one of the Wenches' favourite BDB couples. One of their first interactions clearly shows why we are attracted to them as a couple. Wench Veronica sums it up so well:

"I really like the scene in Rhage's book, Lover Eternal, when Bella follows Z up to his room at the party. There is so much tension, and right off Z isn't painted as the traditional hero. You are pissed off at him and feel like you should dislike him — you feel weird that you don't dislike him. It's a pretty powerful scene."

It all came back. The rapes. The humiliation. The decades of abuse until he lost any conception of time, until he was nothing, all but dead except for the incessant beating of his heart and the rote suck and push of his lungs.

He heard a weird sound. Realized he was moaning.

Oh... Bella.

He wiped his forehead on his biceps. Bella. God, she made him so ashamed of his scars and his ugliness, his ruined appearance and his black, nasty nature.

We know from the scene that the rumours about Z's character are not completely true, and we see a chink in his armour. We feel that Bella can open up this chink. Of course, we have to wait for Lover Awakened for our wish to be fulfilled.

Pretrans John Matthew

Wench Donna summed up why this scene is a favourite of ours:

"A pretrans JM kills two lessers and saves the lives of his two best friends, Qhuinn and Blay. I get chills every time I read that part. He doesn't know he's the reincarnation of Brother Darius. He is seriously outmatched. He can't speak. He can't get anyone to help. It's all up to him. And he totally delivers."

Blay watched, motionless, speechless, as John lifted the spike again. This time, as he brought it down, John opened his mouth and yelled without making a sound, a war cry no less powerful for the fact that it was not heard. 

. . .

 John let his arm ease to his side, the spike falling from his hand and clattering across the pavement.

I am not a coward. I am a warrior.

 The seizure came on him fast and hard, taking him to the ground, pinning him with invisible arms, making him bounce around in his own skin until he blacked out, the roar of oblivion overtaking him.

Bella and Zsadist (gasp) Have Sex

Wench Amanda found the below scene hot, hot, hot. Angry sex is definitely a turn-on when we are reading. Z is so afraid of sex given his past, but he throws Bella on the bed and yanks down her pants. His taking charge shows that he is overcoming his past sexual issues. Of course Bella then gets mad, and more angry sex ensues. One of the hottest scenes in the whole series.

She launched herself across the room, intending to hit him, claw him, make him hurt, she was so frustrated. But he wheeled around, and instead of slapping him she grabbed his head and dragged his mouth to hers. His arms snapped around her, holding her hard enough so she couldn't breathe. As his tongue shot into her mouth, he picked her up and headed for the bed.

Desperate, angry sex was a bad idea. A very bad idea.

Ehlena and Rhev Phone Sex

Wench Zee loved all the sexy time on the phone that Ehlena and Rhev shared. Here is a sample of what was going on in one of the scenes. You'll have to read the chapter if you want the whole breakdown of this scene.

"Take them off," he said. "The stockings. Take them off and keep them with you."

Ehlena put down the phone again and didn't care if she ran the hell out of the hose as she stripped them from her legs. Scrambling for the cell, she barely got it in range before she was demanding what was next.

"Slip your hand under your panties. And tell me what you find."

There was a pause. "Oh, God...I'm wet."

Tohr's Fade Ceremony

In Lover Reborn, we found ourselves moved by the scene before the Fade Ceremony when the Brothers bring tokens to Tohr. We love it because it shows us that the Brothers have Tohr's back, and despite all he has been through they are there for him. Wench Anne highlighted the fact that Wrath gives Tohr his ring for the ceremony, and the whole scene just gets you right in the heart.

"My shellan and I are there for you. Wear that during the ceremony so that you know my blood, my body, my beating heart are yours."

Zsadist and Bella

This scene was a favourite as Zsadist and Bella try to repair their relationship after the birth of Nalla. Just goes to show that communication is the key. Their scene is a situation many couples find themselves in after the birth of a child. How do you view the change in your relationship now that there is another person to take care of? Wench Shau loved the below scene. We hope you did, too.

Bella pulled a rolling stool over and sat down, stroking his forearm because she couldn’t hold his bandaged hands. “I’m scared. If we don’t . . . can’t bridge this gap . . .”

“Me too.”

A Qhuinn and Blay Moment

Getting ready for Lover at Last, we couldn't omit a Qhuinn and Blay moment. The below scene showed all the potency of their relationship to date. Qhuinn has fought the attraction from day one, and if it weren't for these little glimpses, we wouldn't be shipping Qhuinn and Blay to be together.

A wave of dark spice wafted across the bedroom, and stunned him into silence. Of all the ways he'd thought this conversation would go. . . his triggering Qhuinn's bonding scent was so not it.

Blay pivoted back around.

After a long, tense moment, he walked toward his best friend, drawn by the fragrance. And as he came closer, Qhuinn's hot eyes tracked him with each step, the link between them, that had been buried on both sides, abruptly exploding into the room.

When they were nose-to-nose, he stopped, his rising chest meeting Qhuinn's. "Say the word," he whispered harshly. "Say the word and I won't go."

Qhuinn's hard hands clapped onto both sides of Blay's throat, the pressure forcing him to tilt his head back and open his mouth so he could breathe. Strong thumbs dug into the joints on either side of his jaw.

Electric moment.

In summary, I think the whole Black Dagger Brotherhood series is about one couple. Bella and Zsadist are a clear winner for our favourite couple. So were there any other characters in the series? I guess we did mention a few....
